Bringing the Flores Tower to Life

MVRDV and Arttenders designed the Flores tower as a central landmark for the Floriade in Almere, wrapped in a detailed facade created by artist Alex Verhaest. To help people experience this artwork more fully, both on-site and remotely, we worked with Artishock to create a WebAR experience that extends the reach of the project. The goal was to make the artwork accessible without compromising its complexity, using technology that anyone with a smartphone could easily access.

Our solution places users inside a digital version of the artwork, where they can explore its visual elements up close. The experience runs in any mobile browser, removing barriers to access. A digital dragonfly named Oddie, derived from the original artwork, guides users through the environment, adding a familiar and engaging touch.

Making Art Accessible Through WebAR

This WebAR experience allows users to interact with the tower’s design in a more immersive way, while still referencing the physical location to maintain context. It offers a practical method for engaging with public art from anywhere, blending real-world visuals with a digital environment. The project demonstrates how creative technology can be used to enhance public art,
offering new ways for people to connect with it on a personal level.
