Discover how we partnered with MAXLab to create a pioneering VR tool for advanced psychology research.

A Multi-Participant Research

MAXLab, part of the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law, aimed to run psychology experiments by studying multi-participant interactions in a VR environment.

The goal was to create an immersive virtual environment where participants in different locations could engage in real-time communication and experimental tasks. The project required seamless voice and text communication, realistic and quickly generated avatars, and intuitive, controller-free hand tracking—all within a dynamic, game-show-style virtual setting.

To achieve this, they approached Orb to design and build a VR solution that met their ambitious requirements.

VR Solution that for Advanced Research

We created a VR application using advanced hand tracking and real-time synchronized communication. The app also uses the custom-made "Avatar Creation Tool" in order to make realistic avatars of the participant from a single photo in minutes.

Furthermore we gave extensive control over the adaptable flow of the experience to MAXLab. This way the researchers can study a variety of different scenarios.

As the experiment is still ongoing, we are unable to share detailed insights about the exact interaction and user flow at this time.

Empowering Research Today

The application has already empowered MAXLab to carry out several innovative experiments, with plans for it to be adopted by other research institutions in the United States and the Netherlands in the future.
